Why there is no Hoboken St Patty’s parade via NJ.com:
The city would only allow the committee to hold a parade on a weekday, which made it nearly impossible to book performers — who typically work during the day, said Bill Coughlin, committee spokesman. Holding the event at night would be equally impractical, he said. The parade was held for the last 25 years in the city on the first Saturday of March, but in 2012, it stopped due to 34 arrests and two sexual assaults. The St. Patrick’s Day parade has long been a point of contention, and resurfaced during the recent elections. In October, mayoral and council candidates sparred over whether or not the parade should be revived.
What are your thoughts? Will you be participating in the “unofficial” St. Patty’s Day celebration on Saturday in Hoboken? If you are, make sure to check out the HG Survival Guide HERE.
